Seacoast of New Hampshire

The birthplace of New Hampshire, Seacoast can trace its roots to European fishermen, explorers and woodsmen who settled there in the 1620’s. Today the past and the present co-exist to make this a truly unique landscape just brimming with fun and flavor. Seacoast consist of 7 areas—Epping, Exeter, Dover, Hampton, Portsmouth, Rochester and Somersworth.

Cultural Arts:

  • American Independence Museum (Exeter) - Want to know about post-Revolution American? Spend a day here looking at the exhibits and displays or seeing the reenactments of life during America’s earliest days.
  • IOKA Theatre (Exeter) - Music, movies, comedy acts
    and more can be enjoyed by all.
  • Seacoast Science Center (Rye) - to understand more about the natural beauty and historic coastline’s natural treasure, be sure to include the SCC on your itinerary.
  • The Leddy Center (Epping) - Get your ticket and relax as you spend an evening watching the performances and concerts here.

Seacoast Historic Locations

  • Fort Stark (New Castle)-This was an active fort from the Revolutionary War until WWII.
  • Gilman Garrison House (Exeter)-a Fortified house designed to protect the nearby sawmill and hydro powered sites.
  • William Dam Garrison House (Dover) - Although built in 1675 in Dover’s Back River area, it was moved in 1915 to the Woodman Institute Museum complex.

 


Assorted Area Attractions:

  • Great Bay Discovery Center (Greenland/Exeter) - Here you can become acquainted with sea life by spending time at the touch tank and ocean related exhibits. There are also walking trails and boat access.
  • The Science and Nature Center at Seabrook Station- A great place to learn about the oceans place in the ecosystem. There is also a marine life touch tank and wildlife trails.
  • Christmas Country Tree Farm (Plaistow) - start a family tradition by selecting and cutting down your Christmas tree here.
  • Copal House Farm (Lee) - Pumpkins, and gourds, and corn –oh my! An interesting afternoon of fun can be found when you endeavor to find your way through the corn maze. Or, if you prefer a more refined trip, take a ride on the horse drawn wagon or sleigh.
  • Rye Airfield Skateboard Park - Get your adrenaline pumping as you race around the leading indoor skate park in New England. You can bring along your own wheels (skateboard, BMX, inline skates, scooter or mountain.
